Well-known and respected for his career first as a highly skilled active ninja and later as a teacher, he's something of a fatherly figure to Rantarou and his classmates. Especially good with flintlock rifles. Whenever he needs to move about in disguise he usually jumps at the chance to crossdress, much to the exasperation of anyone he's with as he's very unconvincing. However he himself has absolute confidence in his crossdressing persona, who he calls Denko.

He's married to a mysterious and famously beautiful kunoichi, but since Ninjutsu Academy is far from his home he doesn't see his wife very often due to his job. Their adult son Rikichi, a ninja himself, often ends up as a messenger between them.
