Hakkaku is a cooking ninja from the Land of Lightning. He and Teuchi Ichiraku attended the same cooking academy. Hakkaku later on became a successful cooking ninja who made delicious food for ninja to eat while on missions. However, Hakkaku's food was so good, that ninja started eating too much of his food and got fat, preventing them from performing well on missions. Thus, Hakkaku hoped to obtain Teuchi Ichiraku's "Phantom" recipe, hoping that the recipe would make his food both delicious and nutritious. The "Phantom" recipe, in truth, was nothing more than a way to remove the bitter taste from ramen broth.
