Usuyama is in charge of the Quality Assurance Department at Sunlight Beverage. He is known for being very strict, as the rest of Sunlight Beverage employees say he demands a lot before approving projects, specially from the Sales Department.

Usuyama used to play Badminton but retired after he got married and his wife got pregnant. He and Ibuki Sentarou from Mitsuhoshi used to be one of the best players in Highschool, often going to Interhigh Finals, which earned them the nicknames of "Ibuki from the West" and "Usuyama from the East" (As stated by Miyazumi Tatsuru).
