Kakisuke was Momotarou's companion, from the Japanese folklore "Momotarou" (Peach Boy), but now works in animal hell helping to punish deceased people who used to abuse animals during their life.

Later on there are some references to Kakisuke being the monkey from another japanese folk tale "The Crab and the Monkey".
